FAIRTRADE FORTNIGHT 2010

22nd February - 7th March

See below for news and information on the events that are taking place across the City over Fairtrade Fortnight 2010.

This year, Fairtrade events across the City of London include a concert, a wine tasting and a promotional event to raise awareness among the City of London Corporation’s staff.

Open to the public, the concert “Treat me fair” organised in partnership with the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, the Barbican Centre and kindly sponsored by Divine chocolates, will take place on Sunday March 7 at 2.30 pm at the Barbican Conservatory (Barbican Centre, 3rd level) during the “Do something different weekend”. In this context, young people from City of London have collaborated with Guildhall Connect professional workshop leaders to compose and perform a concert inspired by the themes of Fairtrade. This performance will explore the fusion of African drumming, Mc-ing and Song writing and will be introduced by Cocoa Farmers from Ghana. For more information, please visit http://www.barbican.org.uk/education/event-detail.asp?ID=10340

The Wine Tasting will feature Fairtrade wines from South Africa and will take place on 3rd March at the Guildhall. Organised by Just Share in partnership with Stellar Organics, the event aims at encouraging City companies and institutions such as Livery Companies to offer Fairtrade wines at their functions. Entry will be by invitation only but those interested are welcome to email Rachel at justshare@stmarylebow.org.uk to request an invitation.

Also happening in London - the Strictly Fairtrade Tea Dance, on Saturday 27th February 2010, from 12 to 5 pm at Spitalfields market . Free and open to the public, this event will feature dance performances and workshops representing a variety of styles and many different Fairtrade producer countries.
