The Fairtrade Mark is the only independent consumer guarantee of a fair deal for producers in the developing world. It guarantees better prices, decent working conditions, local sustainability, and fair terms of trade for farmers and workers in the developing world. For the City of London, as the heart of the World's trading centre, we have an interest in supporting programmes that help small farmers to access the international markets as well as a responsibility to be good global citizens. Fairtrade enables us to do both of these things.
In October 2007, the City of London's Square Mile was awarded Fairtrade Status, in recognition of the commitment shown by the City Community, businesses and residents alike. Your company is now being invited to demonstrate its support for the City's Fairtrade campaign by signing up to the City Fairtrade Pledge. Once you have answered a few simple questions, you will receive a certificate to display in the workplace.
