Fairtrade in the Square Mile

The City Fairtrade Steering Group is proud that the Square Mile was awarded official status as a Fairtrade Zone in October 2007.

In order to achieve this 5 criteria had to be met:

1. The local authority passes a resolution supporting Fairtrade.

2. A range of Fairtrade products are readily available in the area’s shops and served in local cafés

3. Fairtrade products are used by a number of local work places and community organisations

4. Media coverage and popular support for the campaign has been sought

5. A local Fairtrade steering group has been established to ensure continued commitment to Fairtrade status.

For more information on how these goals were achieved and the Fairtrade Foundation’s assessment of our campaign, please contact fairtrade@cityoflondon.gov.uk.

We are committed to maintaining Fairtrade status and to raising awareness of the City’s campaign for Fairtrade. The City’s organisations have enthusiastically and generously supported the campaign and we thank them wholeheartedly.

By signing the City’s Fairtrade Pledge your organisation is joining what is both a valuable and rewarding initiative. Flexing our muscles as a major purchaser of goods and services means that the City of London and its stakeholders can make a significant impact on the supply chain and subsequently to people’s lives. Your commitment and support to Fairtrade is hugely valued within the City of London and by the Fairtrade producers.
