Fairtrade at the Barbican

Fairtrade at the Barbican

The Barbican Centre uses many Fairtrade ingredients in its restaurants and cafes, as well as selling Fairtrade teas and coffees. In celebration of Fairtrade Fortnight, each restaurant will be introducing a special Fairtrade banana dessert onto the menu. Fairtrade bananas will also be on sale at all of our outlets, and in the Waterside café we’ll be selling Fairtrade cakes.

Bananican Challenge

At the Barbican Centre, we joined over 400,000 people up and down the country eating as many Fairtrade bananas within a 24 hour period as possible. The idea was to attempt to break the banana eating world record and the event was in support of Fairtrade. At the Barbican, we hosted the Bananican Challenge, which saw 425 adults and children feast on a Fairtrade bananas at 11.30am on the Saturday 7 March 2009.
